Light is projected from a first light source (11) on one surface of a paper sheet (100) which is conveyed through a conveyance path, and light is projected from a second light source (21) and a fourth light source (22) on the other surface of the paper sheet (100). A first photoreceptor sensor (14) receives first reflected light of the light which is projected from the first light source (11) and reflected from the one surface of the paper sheet (100). A second photoreceptor sensor (24) receives second reflected light of the light which is projected from the second light source (21) and the fourth light source (22) and reflected from the other surface of the paper sheet (100), and also receives transmission light of the light which is projected from the first light source (11) and transmitted through the paper sheet (100). Thus, desirable reflection images and transmission images of the paper sheet are acquired while a reduction in device size is achieved.
