<p>The present invention relates to a pulse width modulation method for controlling almost all types of switching power converters. The first purpose of the present invention is to provide a pulse width modulation method which can regulate a switching frequency while maintaining excellent characteristics of a hysteresis pulse width modulation method, and which can be easily implemented, has an excellent switching frequency regulation performance, and is applicable to 2-level, multi-level and multi-phase power converters. The second purpose of the present invention is to provide a pulse width modulation method which is capable of synchronization and which can operate even in a discontinuous current mode and can be used for an open-loop control as well as a closed-loop control, in addition to the first purpose. The first invention is mainly characterized by providing a means for detecting a switching period and adjusting an allowable band signal by subtracting the detected switching periodic signal from a reference switching periodic signal and passing the remainder through a sample compensator. The second invention is mainly characterized by reducing a carrier band signal at a constant slope with time and adding a specific step value to the carrier band signal when switching a control signal. The present inventions can be used for applications, in particular, in current control integrated circuits for pulse width modulation, power management integrated circuits or motor driving integrated circuits.</p> |
