PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses delay of a timing to start image formation to a recording material.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a determination unit that determines that a polygon mirror has reached the rotation speed at which image formation can be performed, where the determination unit can detect a first timing at which a predetermined first period passes after the rotation speed of the polygon mirror has reached a first rotation speed, and a second timing at which the polygon mirror passes a second period shorter than the predetermined first period while rotating at a rotation speed within a second rotation speed or more and a third rotation speed or less, and the determination unit determines that the polygon mirror has reached to the rotation speed at which the image formation can be performed on the basis of the earlier timing of the first timing and the second timing. |
