OBTAINING ADVERTISEMENTS IN A WIFI-BASED ADVERTISING NETWORK

A method and system of obtaining advertising content from an advertising network for rendering to a user of a mobile device,the method comprising the steps of: establishing a connection between said mobile device and one of a plurality of wireless access points; the plurality of wireless access points being communicatively coupled to the Internet and each of said wireless access points being associated with a subscriber of said advertising network; the mobile device requesting advertising content from an advertising management system via said one wireless access point and the Internet; the mobile device receiving said advertising content as a combination of a set of subscriber-defined advertising content in accordance with a subscriber rule set associating a subset of subscriber-defined advertising content to said subscriber; and a set of advertising network operator-defined advertising content in accordance with a compliance rule set defining a subset of advertising network operator-defined advertising content as compliant with said subscriber; and rendering said received advertising content by means of a user interface of said mobile device.
