摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nanostructures suitable for sequestering cholesterol, and to provide compositions and kits comprising the structures.SOLUTION: In structures having a core-shell type arrangement, a nanoparticle core (16) may be surrounded by a shell including a material, such as a lipid bilayer (34), including a material that can interact with cholesterol and/or other lipids (20: the shell may be in the form of an apolipoprotein assembly that serves as an enzyme co-factor, receptor ligand, and/or lipid transfer carrier that regulates the uptake of lipids), and when the structure is introduced into a subject, it can sequester cholesterol and/or other lipids to remove them from circulation. Accordingly, provided are the nanostructures, compositions and kits comprising the structures to diagnose, prevent, treat or manage certain diseases or bodily conditions, especially those associated with abnormal lipid levels.
