Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for dynamic polling in a passive optical network system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for dynamic polling of a terminating equipment in an optical network system comprises the steps of: receiving a dynamic bandwidth request upstream (DBRu); storing a number of standby packets of each of a plurality of transmission containers (T-CONT) based on the DBRu; and determining whether to transmit the DBRu or not for each of the plurality of T-CONTs in every frame time based on the number of standby packets and threshold value.
