PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extinguish fire without fail when battery fire breaks out. SOLUTION: The fire extinguishing apparatus 30 is provided in a case 12 which stores a secondary battery, and includes: a tank 31 filled up with extinguishant; and a valve opening mechanism 36 which is connected to the tank 31 and is opened by heat generated when fire breaks out. The tank 31 is provided with a fill-in opening 33 for filling the tank 31 with extinguishant and an attachment port 32 at both side parts of the tank 31.
