451,561. Controlling motor vehicles. NASSER, D., 42, Arpad-ut, Ujpest, Hungary. Dec. 3, 1935, No. 33468. [Class 79 (v)] A throttle and brake control device comprises a foot support or pedal a pivoted at t to a shaft d connected by an arm g and lever i to the throttle, so that the pedal can be rotated laterally about the axis of the shaft d to open the throttle against the action of a closing spring c, the pedal in its closed throttle position being capable of downward movement to apply the brakes. Hydraulic brakes and the clutch as well as mechanical brakes may be controlled by downward movement of the pedal. During the lateral movement of the pedal a toothed roller l carried by the heel end of the pedal rolls on a rack m on the floor board f and assists in keeping the pedal in any desired position. The pedal is made of foot-shape and may have a smaller foot-shape formed therein. The pedal is shown in Fig. 1 in the throttle-open position, its lateral movement being limited by stops n ; in the throttle-closed position, indicated by the broken line z-z the roller l is opposite a hole o in the floor-board and the pedal may be depressed about the pivot t so that the roller rests on and operates a brake lever q pivoted at p. One arm of the brake lever is connected to mechanical brakes and the other to hydraulic brakes and/or the clutch. A spring u returns the pedal to the release position.
|
