PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that controls the charging bias to an appropriate value with a simple constitution, and suppresses image deterioration such as the occurrence of a transfer positive memory by inflow of surplus transfer current to a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus 100, a controlling means 200 for controlling the image forming condition performs charge processing of the photoreceptor 11 by changing the value of DC voltage applied to a charging means 12 by a voltage applying means 201. A current detecting means 202 detects each current flowing between the photoreceptor 11 and charging means 12 charge-processed by application of DC voltage of each value. Charge voltage setting control for adjusting the setting of the voltage applied to the charging means 12 by the voltage applying means 201 during image forming is performed based on the detection result.
