Old vulcanized rubber is plasticized for reuse by adding small quantities of phosphatides to ground scrap rubber and heating in steam at high pressure. The phosphatides may be added alone, mixed with oil, or dissolved in water. In examples: (1) 100 parts of ground old rubber, 1 part of mineral oil and 2 parts of phosphatides are heated for 4 hours in steam at a pressure of 4 atmospheres; (2) 100 parts of ground old rubber and 100 parts of a one per cent solution of phosphatides are heated for 4 hours in steam at a pressure of 4 atmospheres.
|
