<p>A tool for supporting an end of a rail or beam comprises a main body 10 having a pin 13 at one end and a head 14 at the other end. The body includes means 19 for securing a strap 20 and a lug 16 for releasably fastening a free end of the strap 20. The body also includes an enlarged portion 12 to limit insertion of the pin into a support and at least one lug 18 to aid in extracting the tool from the support after use. Recesses or apertures may be provided alternatively or in addition to the lug to assist in extracting the tool. In use, the pin is driven into a fence post or other support until stopped by the enlarged part 12, and a rail or beam to be attached to the support is temporarily supported by looping the strap 20 around the rail and fastening the free end to the lug 16. After use, a claw hammer or the like can engage with the lug 18 to assist in prising the tool from the support. Means of fixing a strap to a fence rail fixing tool are also claimed.</p> |
