PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the recognition accuracy of a pedestrian in a state where an upper half of his or her body cannot be confirmed on an image. SOLUTION: It is determined whether a pedestrian candidate detected from a captured image is a pedestrian or not on the basis of a feature shape comprising a first feature edge inclined to the right, a second feature edge inclined to the left, and a third feature edge for connecting an upper end of the first feature edge and an upper end of the second feature edge, which are in the captured image.
