PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device of treating a polymeric compound producing a polymeric product having a mechanical property and a molecular weight each approximately equal to that of a virgin material without using a kneading disk in a screw piece of an extruder for reaction. SOLUTION: In the method for treating the polymeric compound producing the polymeric product by reacting the polymeric compound with a subcritical or supercritical fluid agent in the extruder 10 for reaction, the screw piece 12 rotating together with the screw shaft 11 of the extruder 10 for reaction has a structure which does not give shear to the polymeric compound and can endure high temperature and high pressure.
