PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent so-called image sticking in a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: When a start pulse Dya is supplied, scan lines are sequentially selected in a period where a clock signal Cly is a L level with the scan line of a first row as a start point, while a polarity of a data signal supplied to a data line is made positive. When a start pulse Dyb is supplied, the scan lines are sequentially selected in a period where the clock signal Cly is a H level with the scan line of the first row as the start point, while a polarity of the data signal supplied to the data line is made negative. At this time, the start pulse Dyb is shifted before and after in timing P so that brightness of an upper half screen and that of a lower half screen may become the same in the timing P.
