Wool shows a reduced tendency to shrink, increased dry and wet strengths, an improved resistance to perspiration, moths &c., and on dyeing, brighter and faster colours, by immersing or working the wool either as such or in the form of yarn or fabrics, in an acidic aqueous padding solution containing urea, formaldehyde and glycerine, afterwards oven drying to complete the condensation reactions which take place, and finally scouring to remove adsorbed products. The solution may be acidified with boric, acetic or formic acid, or with sodium bisulphite. |
