PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding state evaluation device, an engine control unit, an engine system and a method for evaluating a sliding state, by which a variation of a sliding state can be quickly detected. SOLUTION: In a sliding state evaluation device 5 according to the present invention, a sliding state is evaluated between an inner peripheral surface 21c of a cylinder liner 21, in which a piston 22 is installed in such a way as to be freely reciprocated, and piston rings R1 to R4 provided in an outer peripheral surface 22a of the piston 22. Also, the device 5 includes: a calculation section 53 for calculating a pressure difference between both sides of the respective piston rings R1 to R4 in the reciprocating direction of the piston 22; and an evaluation section 54 for evaluating the sliding state based on a variation of the pressure difference.
