Use of a penetrating laser beam welding process, for the manufacture of a vehicle roof component with at least two inter-connected plastic layers (34), where the vehicle roof component exhibits at least a first upper transparent plastic layer and a second lower opaque plastic layer, which is welded at least in a point-wise manner at its parting surfaces (40) by a laser beam (52) of a laser welding head (50) that is led above the first plastic layer (32).
