Disclosed is a method for determining segmentation of an encoding unit. The method for determining segmentation of an encoding unit is capable of determining whether a coding unit (CU) is segmented according to whether the coding unit is the largest coding unit (LCU) by using at least one among costs of a rate-distortion (RD) according to the size of the partition of a prediction unit (PU), a modeling ratio function, and a motion vector (MV) of a neighbor coding unit temporally adjacent to the coding unit.
