<p>PURPOSE: A regenerative breaking apparatus of a vehicle and a method thereof are provided to increase charged amount of a battery by the regenerative breaking through conducting regenerative breaking process in a vehicle by minimized use of a physical break of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A regenerative breaking apparatus of a vehicle (400) comprises a speed detecting unit (401) which detects speed of the vehicle; a regenerative breaking amount determining unit (403) which detects acceleration of the vehicle based on speed of the vehicle when an acceleration pedal (402) is turned off and which determines the regenerative breaking amount of a vehicle according to acceleration of vehicle; and a control unit which conducts regenerative breaking based on the regenerative breaking amount determined. The regenerative breaking method of a vehicle contains a detecting step which detects the speed of the vehicle; a step which detects acceleration of the vehicle based on the speed of a vehicle when the acceleration pedal of a vehicle is turned off; a step which determines the regenerative breaking amount of the vehicle according to the acceleration of the vehicle; and a step which conducts regenerative breaking on the vehicle by operating a generator of the vehicle based on the regenerative breaking amount determined.
