[Class 55 (ii)] Air or other gas is washed by passage between a series of inclined division plates b and through elements c each comprising sheets c<1>, c<2>, c<4> of expanded metal with means for spraying water located in corrugated expanded metal d between the sheets of each element. Liquid is sprayed down at an angle of 45‹ on to the sheets from nozzles in pipes e connected to headers h and falls on to the inclined plates b, passing thence to collecting troughs j from the ends of which it is discharged against bent anti-splash plates n into a large trough m. The expanded sheets f above the nozzles remove excess moisture.
