According to an embodiment of the specification, a portable device control method comprises the following steps: displaying a first layer among a plurality of layers on a first display area located at the front of the portable device; displaying index about the layers on a second display area located at the side of the portable device; sensing a display area among the first and second display areas a user watches; detecting a first control input on the first display area; controlling the first layer displayed in the first display area responding to the first control input if the user watches the first display area; and controlling index displayed in the second display area responding to the first control input if the user watches the second display area.
