PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions of treating a subject for cancer pain.SOLUTION: A subject is treated for cancer pain by administering to the subject an effective amount of a narcotic emulsion, e.g., fentanyl emulsion, formulation. In certain embodiments, the emulsion formulations include a narcotic active agent, oil, water and a surfactant. The emulsion formulations of the invention exhibit reduced central nervous system mediated side effects as compared to a FENTANEST (TM) fentanyl citrate injection formulation. |
