According to the electric motor pertaining to this invention, cooling holes are formed outside arcuate areas drawn about the point of intersection between the extension lines of side faces located on the inside of adjacent permanent magnets, the radius of the arcuate areas being the distance between the point of intersection and the midway point on a side face of the permanent magnets. Therefore, heating due to magnetic resistance resulting from the cooling holes is mitigated, and efficiency is improved.
