PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a delayed self-gelling alginate system capable of sufficiently securing time for supplying cells or other biomaterial into a gel matrix formed in a gelling process.SOLUTION: A dispersion comprises insoluble alginate/gelling ion particles in an aqueous solution which comprises soluble alginate, the insoluble alginate/gelling ion particles comprise isolated G block oligomers having greater than 85% G and an average number of monomers of between 15 to 20 monomers per oligomer. For example, the insoluble alginate/gelling ion particles are produced by the method comprising the steps: i) making an alginate gel using the alginate, a gelling ion and a polar solvent other than water; ii) washing out sodium or other ions from the gel that are present in the alginate; iii) drying the gel to remove solvent; and iv) making particles from the dried gel. |
