The present invention provides methods of sensitizing cancer cells to docetaxel and inhibiting the growth of various tumors by employing a modified eIF-4E antisense oligonucleotide and docetaxel in combination.

A method of treating prostate cancer comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective combination of docetaxel and a modified eIF-4E antisense oligonucleotide which is in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, wherein said docetaxel is administered after administration of said modified eIF-4E antisense oligonucleotide within a therapeutically effective interval, thereby treating prostate cancer in the patient.
