Provided is an image pickup apparatus that reduces the display delays of live view images and that can change the display size. An image pickup apparatus (10) comprises: a first display unit (17) that functions as an electronic view finder; a viewing angle setting unit (39a) that sets a viewing angle of a live view image; a to-be-displayed image generation unit (39) that generates a to-be-displayed image by scaling down and using the live view image in accordance with the viewing angle; a display timing control unit (52); and a blanking interval setting unit (53). The display timing control unit (52) synchronizes an image sensor (13) with the first display unit (17) in a delay time shorter than one frame period. The blanking interval setting unit (52) sets a blanking interval at the end of one frame period in accordance with the size of the live view image displayed. The reading of an image pickup signal is completed before the start of the blanking interval, thereby maintaining the synchronization between the drive timing of the image sensor and the display timing of the electronic view finder. |
