The disclosure additionally relates to a method of treating an Acute Lung Injury (ALI) patient with sepsis based on the presence of tyrosine-nitrated S1P3R protein. |

1. A method of determining risk of mortality from Acute Lung Injury (ALI), sepsis, or a combination thereof in a patient, the method comprising:
(a) obtaining a blood plasma sample from the patient; and (b) performing an assay to measure tyrosine-nitrated sphingosine 1-phosphate 3 receptor (S1P3R) protein concentration in the plasma sample taken from the patient,wherein there is an increased risk of mortality when said S1P3R protein concentration is 200 pg/mL or higher. |
