Provided are a multi-layer ceramic capacitor with which it is possible to reliably obtain contact between an internal electrode and an external electrode even when a base metal is used for the electrodes, and suppress cracks occurring in the ceramic due to the diffusion of metal from the external electrode into the internal electrode, and a method for manufacturing the multi-layer ceramic capacitor. The multi-layer ceramic capacitor satisfies the following requirements: (a) An external electrode (4) contains glass having either one or both of BaO and SrO, and a base metal as a conductive component. If the glass contains either BaO or SrO, the content of either BaO or SrO is 34 mol% or more, and if the glass contains both BaO and SrO, the total content of both BaO and SrO is 34 mol% or more. (b) An internal electrode (2) has a different type of base metal than the base metal in the external electrode as a conductive component. (c) A glass layer is formed at the interface between a ceramic configuring a multi-layer ceramic element and the external electrode. (d) The diffusion distance from the base metal configuring the external electrode to the internal electrode is 1 to 5 µm in the bonded area between the external electrode and the internal electrode. |
