<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that can efficiently prevent the accumulation and adhesion of foreign substances to a contact glass surface without using a cleaning sheet.SOLUTION: In a digital copier of a sheet-through system, a level difference member 500 having a level difference part G between an end face on the downstream side and a top face of contact glass 18 on which a document S is conveyed is arranged on the upstream side of the top face of the contact glass 18. Upon confirmation of the accumulation of foreign substances, a controller controls a level difference moving mechanism on the basis of a foreign substance detection signal to retreat the level difference member 500 to the upstream side with respect to an original position until the document S is conveyed to a reading position SP. The document S to be read is brought into contact with the top face of the contact glass 18 on the upstream side of the reading position SP to remove the foreign substances accumulated on the reading position SP in association with reading operation of the document S.</p> |
