The invention addresses the problem that the time required until current flowing through a coil is brought to zero is long. A motor drive device for controlling current flowing through the coil of a motor comprises: a comparison unit for comparing current flowing through the coil with input control current; an operation selection unit for, according to the comparison result of the comparison unit, selecting any of the operation states including a drive state, a regenerative state, and a braking state; a drive unit for receiving a designation signal for designating a current mode including a driving mode in which current is allowed to flow through the coil and a stop mode in which the current allowed to flow through the coil is stopped, driving the coil in the operation state selected by the operation selection unit when receiving the designation signal designating the driving mode, and driving the coil in the braking state when receiving the designation signal designating the stop mode; and a setting unit for controlling the start of the designation signal designating the stop mode or the start of a period during which the control current is zero. |
