CAPACITY EXPANSION METHOD AND DEVICE

Embodiments of the present invention relate to the technical field of capacity expansion, and provide a capacity expansion method and device, which can shorten time required in capacity expansion of a hard disk and improve the capacity expansion efficiency of the hard disk. The method specifically comprises: in a distributed redundant array of independent disks (RAID) system, evenly dividing each hard disk into virtual hard disks of the same size; evenly grouping the original hard disks into X groups, the number of the original hard disks in the distributed RAID system being the integral multiple of X; selecting m virtual hard disks from each hard disk to form an original hard disk; sequentially selecting m virtual hard disks from each original hard disk group to form a virtual hard disk group; inserting a newly added hard disk formed by the virtual hard disks whose number is the integral multiple of m into the distributed RAID system; selecting m virtual hard disks from each newly added hard disk and inserting the m virtual hard disks into the virtual hard disk group; in the virtual hard disk group, moving data in the virtual hard disks of the original hard disk to the virtual hard disks of the newly added hard disk. The present invention is applied to capacity expansion of a hard disk.
