This polypeptide hydrogel is derived from spider silk protein, and has a moisture content of 85.0-99.9 mass% with respect to 100 mass% of the polypeptide hydrogel. This method for producing a hydrogel includes: a solution production step for obtaining a polypeptide solution by dissolving a polypeptide derived from spider silk protein in at least one dissolving solvent selected from the group consisting of the belowmentioned (A) to (C); and a replacing step for replacing the solution produced in the solution production step with a water-soluble solvent. (A) is dimethyl sulfoxide, (B) is the result of adding an inorganic salt to dimethyl sulfoxide, and (C) is the result of adding an inorganic salt to N,N-dimethylformamide. As a result, provided is a polypeptide hydrogel that has superior water retention, and provided is a polypeptide hydrogel that is superior with respect to application to a living body. |
