<p>The cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, particularly an engine with cam followers for switchable valves, is not in one piece with a lower bearing cap 550 of a camshaft bearing 500. The whole camshaft bearing 500 is pre-assembled on the camshaft 135 by attaching the upper camshaft bearing cap 520 to the lower cap 550 by bolts 560 before connection to internally threaded cast bosses on the cylinder head by bolts 530. Lubrication oil supply may be through a hollow camshaft or through a small pressed-in pipe (590, fig.7) from a main oil supply hole (600). The cylinder head is suitable for cam followers for switchable valves, eg for cylinder deactivation or different valve lift applications, which are wider than standard followers, without needing a separate camshaft bearing frame.</p> |
