<p>A wedge mechanism for a separating tool is disclosed. The wedge 10 has a body with an axis extending between a trailing end and a leading end, and the body 10 tapers from the trailing end to the leading end. The wedge mechanism also comprises at least one plate 30 that is connected to the wedge 10 such that, as the wedge moves parallel to the axis, the plate 30 is moved radially away from the axis. The leading end comprises a leading edge insert 20 adapted to be removed from the body and replaced. A method of manufacturing is also disclosed, as is a method of using a separation tool. A wedge for a separating tool is also disclosed, the wedge having a body which tapers from a trailing end to a leading end.
