A processing system comprises an issuer function 51 and a merchant function 52 as part of a card processor 50. Issuer function 52 is arranged to receive a first authorisation request from a first card scheme administrator 40 associated with a first transaction card, the first authorisation request relating to a card transaction made by a cardholder 10 using the first transaction card at a card acceptor and including a number of data elements. A mapping (53, Fig 3) function provided in the card processor is arranged to convert the first authorisation request into a second authorisation request relating to a transaction associated with an account held with an institution, wherein mapping function (53) is arranged to use data elements from the first authorisation request to form the second authorisation request. Merchant function 52 is arranged to send the second authorisation request to the issuer 80 of the institution of the account 90, and to receive a first authorisation response from the institution, the first authorisation response including a number of data elements. The mapping function (53) is arranged to convert the first authorisation response into a second authorisation response, the second authorisation response relating to the card transaction made by a cardholder 10, wherein the mapping function (53) is arranged to use data elements of the first authorisation response to form the second authorisation response. The issuer function 51 is arranged to send the second authorisation response to the card acceptor via the first card scheme administrator 40. |
