An apparatus 1 for monitoring the position of a patient's head comprises:- (i) an eye attachment 3 for disposal over the patient's eye, comprising means 5 for detecting the position of the eye attachment, the eye attachment being adapted to transmit a first signal representing the position of the eye attachment; and (ii) a controller 9 comprising: - (a) a processor 11 for receiving the first signal representing the position of the eye attachment; and (b) a programmable means 13 programmable by a user to define a first predetermined position of the head of a patient. The programmable means transmits a second signal to the processor representing the first predetermined position, and the controller compares the first signal representing the position of the eye attachment with the second signal representing the first predetermined position, and if the first predetermined position does not match the detected position of the eye attachment, then an alarm condition is provided. In embodiments, the position sensor may be a three-axis accelerometer. |
