发明名称 Improvements in paper feeding mechanism for statistical, accounting and like machines
摘要 568,956. Feed mechanism for statistical and accounting machines. REMINGTON RAND, Inc. Sept. 17, 1943, No. 15306. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1942. [Class 100 (iv)] A paper-feeding mechanism for statistical, accounting and like machines, which is especially applicable for feeding a series of record sheets such as indicated in Fig. 3 through a machine for printing a heading such as the name and address of a customer on lines 6 and 7 of a sheet which is divided up into 22 of such lines, and is adapted to he printed on a further 10 lines from line 11 onwards with items representing an invoice of class, amount, and price of goods supplied, and to print the total cost which is registered by a statistical machine such as is described in Specifications 522,562 and 555,823, [Group XIX], is constructed so as to enable the sheets which are connected together and folded along lines 85 to be advanced after one sheet is printed so as to bring the succeeding sheet to the required position for receiving further invoice designations &c. according to whether the succeeding sheet relates to a new account or is a continuation of an account which can not be recorded on one sheet. In the one case, a new heading will be required and the feed will be to line 6 only, but if an account is to be continued the feed will be to line 11, skipping the heading. This is termed a uniform feed and the mechanism for this is shown in Fig. 12. In the former case, the feed is termed a " compensating feed," and the mechanism for effecting this is shown in Fig. 10, and the machine acts to print until the sensing of a new card series causes first a blank feed, then a line feed in which the total is printed, and then the feed is to line 6 of the next form, and the heading is printed from two or more cards, the last of which has a special hole which causes the compensating mechanism to feed the paper to line 11. The " compensating " feed may be converted to a uniform feed. The actual paper-feeding mechanism is similar to that described in Specification 555,698 and comprises a large gear-wheel 136 which is geared to a wheel 138 fixed to the shaft 117 of the platen 74 which is advanced for spacing movements by ratchet mechanism. The wheel 136 is straddled by a swinging yoke 140 comprising members connected by posts 141, 142, and a wheel 144 mounted in the yoke 140 engages the pinion 136 and is integral with a detent wheel 145 which can be locked against revolution by a dog 146 pivoted to the yoke 140 and held by a catch 150 in contact with wheel 145. As shown in dotted lines in Fig. 8, at the end of the return stroke of the yoke a stop 148 forces the dog into engagement with the wheel 145 and the yoke then moves with the wheel 136 as this is operated by the spacing mechanism. The catch 150 is adapted to be released by a post 151 at the end of a movement corresponding to a feed of 17 lines, and on the return movement the wheel 144 rotates freely and no feed is imparted to the paper. The stop 148 may be formed integral with another one or more stops which can be brought into operation to permit of a longer feed. The feed of 17 lines may be followed by one of 5 lines, a stop 201 being arranged to arrest the movement of the voke 140 after an advance of 5 lines following the long feed. Additionally, the yoke 140 is fitted with a pivoted lever 152 which can be adjusted angularly in order to cause the dog 146 to lock the detent wheel 145 independentlv of the catch 150. This lever 152 is part of the compensating feed shown in Fig. 10, and which comprises a lever 154 freely mounted on a shaft 133 and formed with a notch which permits lost motion between the lever 154 and a pin 156 on the yoke 140 while the lever 152 is operated to actuate the dog 146. The lever is actuated by a link 155 operated by a pin-andslot connection with a lever 161 and a compound link 164, 165 operated by a crank-pin 166 driven by a one-revolution clutch which is controlled by lever mechanism and a link 176 operated by pin-and-slot connections with a lever arm 180, Fig. 12, or 181, Fig. 10, operated by mechanism under control of perforations in cards, or by the totalizor shaft. The clutch may also be controlled by a projection 233, Fig. 10, on the link 155 which operates the lever 154 after the printing of a certain number of lines. For uniform feed a yoke 1401 is employed as shown in Fig. 12, and is arranged so as to straddle the yoke 140 and to be associated with controlling levers 1521, 1541 and other parts similar to the corresponding parts 152, 154 of Fig. 10. The catch 150 is dispensed with and the return motion of the yoke 1401 is limited by a stop 221 in the path of one of the yoke arms. The lever 1541 is operated by a link 215 which can be disconnected from its driving lever 217, and can be set to give a variable throw to the lever. The lever 217 is also operated from the crank 166 by means of a link formed of two parts 220, 218 which can be locked together by means of a catch 2251 which is connected by a link 227 to a similar catch 225 which locks the links 164, 165 together when the uniform feed is in operation. The totalizing shaft 123 operates to shift the catches from one position to another. The mechanism for detecting change of designation of the cards may be arranged to prevent the operation of the uniform feed when the last item is printed on the last line but one of a form, and in this case the total is printed on the last line of the form. The machine may be arranged to print a continuous list by tripping the uniform and compensating feeds described.
