[Class 37] The movement of a multi-range meter is shunted by a variable resistor 4 which can be brought into circuit and varied by the operator at will for shunting excess current. The resistor 4 is stepped and wound with coarse and fine wire 5, 6, and is in series with a fixed resistor 13 across moving-coil connections A, B. The resistor 4 is brought into action by a slidable and rotatable shaft 8, the spring 9 normally biassing the contactor 7 out of contact. The end 8<1>, of the shaft 8 may contact at 14 to bring in a fixed shunt resistor when the variable resistor 4 is out of circuit. The instrument can be used for measurements of resistance and capacitance and may be employed with rectifiers. Specifications 404,015 and 423,199 are referred to. |
