477,114. Control of two motors. SUBMARINE SIGNAL CO. (LONDON), Ltd. (Submarine Signal Co.) Nov. 19, 1936, No. 31740. [Class 38 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Periodic unidirectional pulses are used to operate interconnected synchronous motors, the pulses being supplied to the motor windings. The apparatus is used to indicate speed by delaying the pulse in a delay network. Shaft 1, the speed of which is to be indicated, is suitably geared to the rotor of transmitter 4. Periodically, the cam 5 closes the contact 6 so that an impulse passes to the rotors of both transmitter 4 and indicator 8. As the pulse is delayed by network 12, the rotor of transmitter 4 has moved through a distance proportional to its speed before the pulse reaches it and as the pulse causes the rotor of the indicator to assume the same position as the rotor of the transmitter, the pointer 9, connected to the indicator rotor, indicates the speed of shaft 1. A frictionally operated switch and a suitable relay enable the indicator 9 to move in the same direction irrespective of the direction of rotation of the shaft, a " backing " signal being operated when the shaft is rotating in one direction. |
