A water-based paint for plastic substrates comprises ≥75% non-solvent-based resin, one or more additives, 1-10% water, and at least one colour pigment. Preferably, the resin comprises an aliphatic polyurethane acrylic hybrid forming 80-90% of the paint. The paint may include as the additive(s), 3-5% co-solvent, ≤2% UV absorber, <1% air release agent, <1% wetting agent, and <1% rheology modifier (thickener). The paint may also contain <2% surface slipping agent (e.g. oxidised polyethylene wax emulsion), <0.5% biocide, <1% levelling agent, and <5% deionised water. A method of manufacturing the paint comprises mixing the resin, the additive(s), and water at a relatively high speed, allowing the mixture to stand, and stirring in the pigment(s) at a relatively low speed. A matting agent may be added to the mixture at the same time as the pigment(s). In a preferred embodiment, the relatively high speed stirring is performed for 20 minutes and the mixture is allowed to stand for one hour. |
