An opening/closing means for an automatic umbrella comprises a first tube 11 and a second tube 12 which is longer than the first tube 11 and is attached to a handle 9 at one end and a notch 4 at the other. The first tube 11 is fitted on the second tube 12, and a slot 121 is provided on the second tube 12 allowing a joining element 73 to move along it. The joining element 73 connects a push post 72 and the first tube 11. A driving mechanism comprises a screw rod 71 and the push post 72. A drive portion 720 has an inner thread matched with the screw rod 71 such that as the power source 9 drives the screw rod 71 the push post 72 is moved along the screw rod 71, and the second tube 12 moves along the first tube 11. A deforming portion 723 is connected with the drive portion 720 and a coupling portion 723. The deforming portion 723 is rigid in an axial direction but able to deform in a torque direction. Any vibration resulting from the mechanism is absorbed by the deforming means, thus increasing the working life of the mechanism. |
