A thumbnail display method is provided, which includes receiving a selection of an XML paper specification (XPS) file, receiving a preview command for the selected XPS file, analyzing a structure of the XPS file, and displaying thumbnail information regarding a plurality of thumbnails contained in the XPS file according to the analyzed structure. Therefore, it is possible for a user to preview various thumbnails contained in an XPS file.

1. A method of displaying a thumbnail at an image forming apparatus, the method comprising:
receiving a selection of an XML paper specification (XPS) file; receiving a preview command for the selected XPS file; analyzing a structure of the XPS file including at least one document region and at least one page region; and displaying thumbnail information regarding whether a plurality of thumbnails representing at least one document and at least one page of the at least one document are contained in the XPS file corresponding to the at least one document region and the at least one page region according to the analyzed structure prior to displaying the plurality of thumbnails.
