Provided is a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of obtaining a liquid crystal display device with improved various characteristics such as a voltage holding ratio or the like. To achieve this, a polymer (P) having a structure represented by the following formula (1) as a polymer component is contained in the liquid crystal aligning agent, wherein in formula (1), R1 is a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group of 1-30 carbon atoms, X^1 and X^2 are each independently a divalent organic group, and two″*″represents a bonding hand bonded to mutually different groups.
