1. A method for reducing wear and contamination of a bias charging member and a surface portion of a photoreceptor, comprising:
providing a photoreceptor; providing a bias charging member for charging said photoreceptor; and pulsing said bias charging member into and out of contact with a surface portion of said photoreceptor in order to reduce power consumption, toner contamination, and wear rate on both said surface portion of said photoreceptor and a surface portion of said bias charging member, and wherein said pulsing of said bias charging member into and out of contact with said surface portion of said photoreceptor is accomplished through vibration of said charging member against said surface portion of said photoreceptor.
