FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to removal of carbon dioxide and other pollutants from waste streams via absorption thereof from concentrated streams. The method of separating heavy metals from water in a condensate of flue gases from a process, wherein carbon dioxide is removed from a gas stream at an electric power plant, includes obtaining a chloride salt and mixing said salt with water and/or steam to obtain a solution. The solution then undergoes electrolysis to obtain a hydroxide and chlorine gas. A portion of the hydroxide is mixed with a stream of flue gases to obtain carbonate products, bicarbonate products or a mixture of carbonate and bicarbonate products in the formed mixture. Said carbonate and/or bicarbonate products are separated from the mixture, thereby removing the carbon dioxide from the gas stream. A portion of the hydroxide is added to the condensate of flue gases to change the pH thereof from acidic to alkaline, which results in precipitation of heavy metals, and the condensate is passed through a filter medium.EFFECT: efficient separation of heavy metals from water in a condensate of flue gases.5 cl, 20 dwg, 3 ex, 2 tbl |
