A method for encoding an image signal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: determining a prediction mode for an encoding target block of an image signal; determining an interpolation direction based on direction characteristics of internal pixels of the block when the prediction mode is an inter mode; and encoding a motion vector for the block according to the determined interpolation direction when the determined interpolation direction is not a horizontal or vertical direction.
