A method for encoding an image signal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: splitting an image signal into a plurality of units; performing intra coding for some of the units; calculating a frequency per prediction mode applied to blocks of some units in the process of performing the intra coding; aligning the prediction modes based on the frequency; and performing intra coding for some other of the units using the aligned prediction modes.
