PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a geometry for a recess that can be punched from a sheet metal blank forming the base of sheet metal component.SOLUTION: A recess 13 of a sheet metal blank 7 opens in an outer edge 9 of a first sheet metal leg piece 5 and is formed in a hook-like manner by an arcuate and/or polygonal first edge 14 which extends in a concave manner in the first sheet metal leg piece 5 and in a base part 11 and an arcuate and/or polygonal second edge 15 which extends in a second sheet metal leg piece 6 and in the base part 11 and which protrudes toward the edge 14. The second edge 15 extends with a projection 16 beyond a straight line defined by a bending line A of the first sheet metal leg piece 5, a projection tip 17 being spaced apart from the first edge 14 at least by a sheet metal thickness t. Additionally when the sheet metal leg pieces 5, 6 are bent, the projection 16 is surrounded by the first edge 14 and the recess 13 is at least substantially closed by the projection 16.
