The present invention relates to a display method of an electronic device and the device thereof, and more particularly, to a method and a device for setting a part of an active area of a display area as an inactive area. The method for adjusting a display area in an electronic device comprises the following steps: if a gesture is detected on an active area of a display unit, confirming a size and a location of a virtual inactive area to be set; and setting a part of the active area as the inactive area based on the confirmed size and location. The gesture can include various movements: a touch movement of a certain distance from a display boundary, a menu selection to generate a virtual bezel, or a menu selection to change the screen configuration.
