The present invention relates to a method and a device (1) for treating ammonium-containing waste water (2) in a deammonification device (1) having at least one activation tank (3). According to the present invention, the method includes the steps of: at least intermittently introducing activation sludge from an activation tank (3) to hydrocyclone (5); separating the activation sludge from the hydrocyclone (5); and then returning, to at least one activation tank (3) of the device (1), both hard fractions that mainly contain dense fractions and aerotropic ammonium-oxidizing bacterium (AOB). The method further includes the steps of: precipitating, on the rough inner surface of the hydrocyclone (5), anaerobic AOB (anammox) having higher density than the aerotropic AOB by centrifugal forces and hydrodynamic forces in the hydrocyclone (5) while the activation sludge is separated in the hydrocyclone (5); generating abrasive forces by a relative motion between the anaerobic AOB (anammox), which is moved fast, and the stationary rough inner surface of the hydrocyclone (5); and partially removing the AOB (anammox), in particular, organic or inorganic plaque which exists in planctomycetes granules through the abrasive forces. |
